The feature film Magnetic Fields, directed by Giorgos Gusis (pictured), was selected to represent Greece at the 95th Academy Awards. According to the YPPOA’s seven-member competent committee, the film “speaks directly to the viewer, but at the same time can appeal to an international audience, as it touches on a universal problem – the problem of an existential crisis.”

(…) And if in Greece the committee issues an opinion, and the ministry agrees, then this does not happen in other countries. Yesterday it became known that Russia will not send a film that will represent Russian cinema at the Oscars 2023, which indicates how deep the gulf between the two countries is. Pavel Chakhrai, the head of the relevant film selection committee, resigned after learning about the decision of the Russian Film Academy.

(…) The Europa Nostra Awards Grand Prize for International Relations Kostas Karras was awarded posthumously for his work on the cultural and natural heritage of Greece and Europe and his 50-year contribution to the Hellenic Society for the Environment and Culture. “He was a visionary environmentalist, an outstanding historian and a true European leader,” the award justifies. At the same ceremony, which took place in Prague, the restoration work of the Diocese of Sikin was celebrated.
