Karin Jean-Pierre assured that the United States and its allies are preparing “additional” economic sanctions against Moscow, which claimed on Wednesday that four regions of Ukraine under its control made a “free choice in favor of Russia”, according to AFP and Agerpres.
The so-called annexation “referendums” organized by Moscow in the Ukrainian regions of Kherson Oblast, Zaporizhzhia (south), Donetsk and Luhansk (east) were condemned by the West as “fictitious” and “illegal” elections.
At the same time, Moscow on Wednesday accelerated preparations for the annexation of part of Ukraine, publishing the results of these “referendums” on joining Russia, Reuters reports.
President Vladimir Putin may announce the integration of these regions into the Russian Federation during a speech expected in the coming days.
