Special Court dismisses former appellate prosecutor Georgia Tsatani from civil suit

The Special Court of Ministerial Responsibility, which is trying former Deputy Attorney General Dimitris Papagelopoulos and former head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office Eleni Tulupaki, rejected the motion of former Appellate Prosecutor Georgia Tzatani to have her represented as a civil suit (supporting Mr. Papagelopoulos’ accusation). in breach of duty). That is, Ms. Tzatani cannot be brought as a civil action in support of the charge against Mr. Papagelopoulos.

Earlier, Olga Smyrli, prosecutor at the seat of the Special Court of Ministerial Responsibility, offered to accept the request of Mr. Papagelopoulos’ lawyers not to accept the submission of former Georgia Court of Appeals prosecutor Georgia Tzatani as a civil action.

With the start of today’s third day of hearings in the Special Court, Ms. Smirley proposed accepting the objection of Mr. Papagelopoulos’ lawyers that Ms. Tzatani’s procedural rights were denied. And this is because Ms. Tzatani filed a civil lawsuit on 02/16/2022, and the oldest (2018) application she filed was not about the case that is currently pending, but about another case, this bombing against her. Ms. Zatani’s lawyers opposed the District Attorney’s proposal, while Mr. Papagelopoulos’ lawyers, on the contrary, described the prosecutor’s proposal as reasonable and agreed with it.

Then the lawyers of the defendants filed a request to cover the entire trial live (live broadcast). They argued that the live broadcast of the trial was provided for by the legislation in force (Law 3090/2002), following the relevant decision of the Special Court, as long as good morals were not violated, which do not exist in this particular case. They also argued that the importance of the trial was of great interest, since Mr. Papagelopoulos is a former prosecutor and held political powers in addition to other positions he held, and Ms. Tulupaki is the current prosecutor.

For his part, Mr. Papagelopoulos took the floor at the request for television coverage of the trial and stressed: “I will set the human parameter. My personal drama They tried to break me for five years. I want the truth, they show me a criminal, what kind of Rasputin, what is it … When an independent court said that all this was not true (s.s.: The will of the Judicial Council), information was leaked that I was accused of a bunch of crimes. I believe in Justice, the truth will be proven, the Greek people will recognize it.”

The court adjourned to make a decision at the request of lawyers.
