
Lyudmila Samsonova and Qinwen Zheng will play in the final of the “WTA 500” tournament in Tokyo after Saturday’s victories.

Samsonova, who is ranked 30th in the WTA ranking, defeated China’s Shuai Zhang (28th WTA) after an hour and a half of play with a score of 7-6(4), 6-2.
In the other semifinal, Zheng (WTA 36) defeated Russian Veronika Kudermetova (WTA 13, favorite 4) 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(3). The match lasted three hours.

- Qinwen Zheng (19 years old) is in the first WTA final of her career, while Ludmila Samsonova has reached the final in three of the last four events she has competed in (she won in Washington and Cleveland).
The Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis tournament is held from September 19 to 25, has a total prize pool of $757,900 and is part of the WTA 500. The 2019 tournament (last played) was won by Naomi Osaka.
