His Committee of Inquiry UN per Ukraine intends to investigate the mass grave near Izyum, in Eastern Ukrainewhere hundreds of bodies were found, the head of that committee said today.
“Of course, this is a new incident, but we certainly intend to look into the Izyum incident as well,” said Eric Mose, who heads the Ukrainian commission of inquiry.
Asked if crimes against humanity had been committed, Moses said the commission had not yet come to that conclusion, citing both the lack of evidence and the fact that the available evidence had not been analyzed.
Evidence of abuse and displacement of minors
It is noted, however, that the commission has evidence of ill-treatment and displacement of minor Ukrainians, and it is in a hurry to investigate them further.
The report of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry into Violations in Ukraine, presented on Friday at the 51st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, details crimes allegedly committed during the war in Ukraine.
“The commission has documented cases of rape, torture and illegal detention of children. Children have also been killed and injured in indiscriminate attacks using explosives. Repeated bombings, crime, forcible displacement and separation from family members severely impact their well-being and mental health,” the report says.
