Direct initiatives aimed at a 10% reduction in electricity consumption in the aggregate for 2022 and 2023 are being put forward by Eurobank management, according to a message to the staff of the group’s CEO Fokion Karavias.
In his message, Mr. Caravias notes that “Europe is experiencing a major military conflict on its soil after the Second World War, which, unfortunately, dragged on, with tragic results and painful social consequences for all peoples. In this conflict, energy is used as a means to reduce its supply and manipulate energy markets. The countries of the European Union are reacting, looking for alternative sources of energy, but also setting goals to reduce the demand for electricity. Our country is also accepting these goals so that our economy and society can be as energy-saving as possible for the coming winter, and the Government is already announcing energy saving measures.”
Eurobank, Mr. Karavias notes, should be one of the first companies in Greece to develop, plan and commit itself to implement a general energy saving plan with immediate implementation. Our planning includes both large-scale actions that concern the organization at the center, and initiatives that place our daily behavior in a similar context. The measures announced by the Eurobank include:
– Immediate suspension of night lighting in the central buildings and deactivation of illuminated advertising in our stores in the evening.
– Extension of central temperature control programming to more buildings.
The bank plans to reduce energy consumption by 10% cumulatively in 2022 and 2023.
— Replacement of the external blackout system with 1600 new blinds on the facade of buildings.
– Upgrading the design of shops and general technological equipment to limit electricity consumption (computers, lighting and air conditioning).
– Route studies on the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roofs of objects, in order to cover part of the energy needs through solar energy.
– Gradual expansion and placement of electricity meters in all store buildings.
– Awareness and training of staff to strengthen energy and environmentally responsible behavior through specialized training programs and voluntary action.
The above initiative is a continuation of the bank’s broader strategy for the rational use of natural resources and environmental protection. In his message, Mr. Caravias emphasizes that “in recent years, we have achieved a significant reduction in electricity consumption by 37.8%. Moving IT infrastructure to the cloud, replacing more than 15,000 LED luminaires in a chain of stores, installing new technology air conditioners, and reducing travel by shifting to a hybrid operating model are just a few of our actions. with a positive energy footprint.
