Thursday is the deadline for submitting binding financial proposals for the acquisition of the majority of the authorized capital (at least 67%) Alexandroupolis Port Organizationand a day later, on Friday, his board of directors TAIPED is expected to print the financial proposals that have already been submitted to the Igoumenitsa Port Authority.

Two schemes of American interests have qualified for the current final round of the competition for Alexandroupolis. This is, on the one hand, Quintana Infrastructure & Development, and on the other hand, the consortium of Black Summit Financial, Euroports, EFA Group and GEK TERNA. The other two schemes participating in the competition are Port Organization of Thessaloniki and a consortium of Cameron SA, Goldair Cargo and Bollore Africa Logistics.

The port of Alexandroupolis has gained in recent years a decisive geopolitical importance, which has increased even more after the war in Ukraine. It is recalled that within the framework of the institutionalized Greek-American defense cooperation (Mutual Defense Cooperation Agreement – MDCA) the port is also used by the US armed forces. At the same time, Gastrade’s Marine Liquefied Natural Gas Regasification Terminal (FSRU) is being developed at the port. In addition, a search is underway in the area for a natural gas power plant built by a joint venture between PPC, DEPA and the Kopelouzos group. The latter participates in Gastrada, as well as in a consortium claiming the port.

In another competition, for its privatization Port Authority of Igoumenitsathree schemes have submitted binding proposals: Attica Group in a joint venture with Aktor, Grimaldi and OLTH.

It is believed in the market that when financial proposals are printed, the two candidates with the highest financial proposals (provided that the proposal of the second is no more than 20% different from the first) who will be invited to submit new improved proposals will be held by OLTH and the group Grimaldi.
