Mitchell is a prime candidate to replace Carlos Corberan in Olympiacos’ technical leadership. According to Spanish media, the experienced coach is on a plane bound for Greece to shake hands with Vangelis Marinakis and take charge of the Greek champions again.
In fact, he is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Piraeus team. Mitchell took over at Olympiacos in February 2013, replacing Leonardo Jardim at the time.
He was sacked in January 2015, having won two leagues and a Cup, and also qualified for the ’16’ phase of the Champions League. He managed Olympiacos in 90 games with 64 wins, 11 draws and 15 losses.
After Olympiacos, he took charge of Marseille, Malaga and Pumas in Mexico. The last stop in his career was Getafe, from which he was sacked on 3 October 2021.
