
On Monday, a notice of participation in the 400 million lei auction for the purchase of 16 electric locomotives for long-distance trains was sent to SICAP. The current fleet of locomotives has an average age of over 40 years and these locomotives break down frequently.
What does the ARF say?
The Railway Reform Authority (ARF) reports that today, 19/09/2022, it sent SICAP a notice of participation in the investment project “Purchase of 16 new 4-axle electric locomotives with ERTMS systems capable of towing up to 16 passenger cars. ยป , with an estimated cost of 400 million lei (excluding VAT).

16 electric locomotives, which will provide direct connections between major cities in Romania, must ensure:
– speed of movement up to 200 km/h;
– European technical compatibility standards;
– reliability and low operating costs;
– reduction of pollution;
– capitalization of investments in the modernization of the entire TEN-T railway network on the territory of Romania;
– support for the transition program to the train control system based on the European ERTMS / ETCS standard.

Financing of the investment project is carried out at the expense of non-refundable external funds, through the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan, “Component 4 – Sustainable Transport” and from the state budget through the budget of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, within the limits of the amounts approved annually for this purpose, in accordance with state investment programs , approved in accordance with the law.
