Carlos Sainz wants to fight with Max Verstappen for the world championship title

Having reached the age of 28, Sainz is already a veteran of the Big Circus, with eight active seasons to his credit. In an interview with the EFE agency, the Iberian pilot said that his goal in 2023 will be to fight on an equal footing with the current champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull).

“The foundation is already there. This year we have a solid foundation with a very good car and a team that is progressing. We have to keep trying to improve some things like reliability and consistency.

We have to take into account that this year we fought against a team like Red Bull, which does everything perfectly. We have to learn and be the team that does it next year.

We would have been in contention for the title this year if we had done better and had a bit of luck at the start of the season. After the improvements in recent years, Ferrari must make this (winning the title) the main goal” – Carlos Sainzfor EFE.

Tough season for Ferrari – Carlos Sainz took his first win, but Red Bull were the better team

Winner of Silverstone (first career win), Sainz has finished on the podium in six other races and is 5th in the drivers’ standings. The Spaniard spoke about the problems that Ferrari faced and stated that Red Bull were the better team in the current Grand Circus season.

“I am not 100% satisfied with this season. There were a lot of good moments and some that I won’t forget, like that first win, but it was a bit like a roller coaster because there were difficult moments. This season, it has been difficult to find pace and a string of good results, there have been reliability issues and it is this consistency that can put you in contention for the title.

Not only Verstappen (none were untouchable), but also Red Bull. Verstappen has 10 years, but Red Bull is not wrong either. Neither in their strategy, nor in the moments when they need to make important decisions. They get fined in a race where they know they have the strongest car” – Carlos Sainz.

The next Grand Prix in the competition calendar will be the Singapore State Grand Prix on October 2. The race will be held on the Marina Bay track.
