In the 62nd minute of the match, the 27-year-old former football player Aek allegedly called the Jamaician Damian Lowe “Negro.” The 29-year-old Inter Miami defender yelled at the Greek footballer after using a specific word when the referee intervened.
Foreman Funtas was immediately replaced by his coach. “There was a complaint that I am sure will be investigated. I can’t say more,” said Wayne Rooney.
“The team became aware of the allegations against the player during the match against Inter Miami. The club will work closely with MLS and the opposing team to investigate the incident,” said a DC United spokesman.
