The Kremlin said on Tuesday that there was no question of a nationwide mobilization in Russia to support a military campaign in Ukraine, days after a surprise counteroffensive by Ukrainian forces sent Russians fleeing almost all of Kharkiv Oblast.
“At the moment, no, there is no discussion about it,” Kremlin spokesman Dmytro Peskov said in response to a Russian parliamentarian’s question about mobilization.
Regarding criticism of the country’s leadership by nationalist commentators who called for mobilization, Peskov said it was an example of “pluralism” and that Russians as a whole continued to support President Vladimir Putin.
“Russians support the president, and this is confirmed by the mood of the people. People are closely united around the decisions of the head of state. As for other points of view, critical points of view, as long as they stay within the law, it’s pluralism, but the line is very, very fine, everyone has to be very careful here,” he said.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia claims that they are carrying out powerful strikes against Ukrainian troops
On the other hand, the Russian army said on Tuesday that it had carried out “massive strikes” against Ukrainian forces on all fronts, with the Kremlin accusing Ukraine of torture and ill-treatment of civilians in recaptured areas in recent days.
“Russian aviation, ballistic and artillery forces are carrying out massive strikes on units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in all directions of hostilities,” the daily report of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation states.
In particular, the ministry mentioned the explosions near the cities of Sloviansk, Kostyantynivka and Bakhmut, in the east of Ukraine, in the southern regions of Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia, as well as in Kharkiv.
On Monday, Ukraine announced that it had retaken about 6,000 square kilometers of territory on several fronts thanks to a counteroffensive launched in early September. (Source Agerpres)
