The White House on Thursday asked China not to support Moscow in the war against Kyiv, believing that the whole world should be opposed to Moscow’s aggression in Ukraine, and not stand aside, Reuters and Agerpres reported.
“We don’t believe that anyone should be left out,” White House spokesman John Kirby told CNN on Thursday as Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin at a summit in Uzbekistan. “The whole world should oppose what Putin is doing,” he added.
“This is not the time for business as usual with Putin,” Kirby added.
Xi Jinping and Putin met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, the first face-to-face meeting since Russian troops invaded Ukraine in February.
Kirby said it remains to be seen how much China will support Russia’s war, noting that Beijing has not acted to materially support Putin or violate sanctions against Moscow.

In addition, Kirby told MSNBC that the United States is preparing to send another package of security assistance to Ukraine, but declined to provide further details, including when the tranche would arrive.
An announcement is expected “very, very soon,” he added to CNN.
