Meta launches parental control tools on Instagram. This toolkit allows parents and carers to:

  • Send a teen an invitation so you can control the account, or accept an invitation from a teen
  • See how much time your teen spends on Instagram each day — and set daily limits
  • Schedule breaks at specific times throughout the day
  • To see who a teen is following and who is following them back
  • Get notified when a teen chooses to share a post, reports the account or post, including the person reported and the type of content.

Meta also announces the launch of the Family Center: parents from Romania and around the world will be able to visit the Family Center, which contains materials developed by experts to help teenagers and parents navigate the digital world.

New features launched to help teens better manage their time on Instagram: “Meta is testing its new nudge feature globally, which will encourage teens to follow a different thread if they repeatedly look at the same guy on Explore. Although it is currently in the testing stage, the company wants to launch this feature soon.”

Meta also recently released more details on the framework they follow when developing youth features. The company created this process to help them apply the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in product development. The framework used by Meta teams is a guide to the application of this standard in the development of digital technologies for people under 18 years of age.
