USR MP Iulian Bulai announced on Wednesday that he had informed the Venice Commission about the justice laws proposed by Minister Catalin Preda. Bulai requested the opinion of the Commission on three draft laws. This approach irritated the Minister of Justice Katalin Preda, who reacted.
The USR asked the PSD-PNL-UDMR coalition not to hold a final vote in the special commission to discuss justice laws until the Venice Commission’s opinion.
“The Venice Commission will provide an opinion on the three laws on justice. This is what we requested today in the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The request was accepted by a majority vote. The PSD-PNL should take its time: wait for the requested point of view and implement it on the provisions of the MCV and GRECO”, says Julian Bulai.
Minister of Justice Katalin Predoyu, present at the debate on justice laws in the parliamentary committee, reacted angrily: “It is unfair, wrong and hypocritical to reproach the government, the Ministry of Justice, for not informing the Venice Commission any more, as when you are criticized for not checked the procedure that timed out. It’s not our fault. But we took into account the opinion of the Venice Commission!” Predoyu said.
The special commission for the examination of laws in the sphere of justice on Wednesday began the discussion of the amendments submitted to three draft laws. In the first part of the debate, deputies and senators considered approximately 140 articles and rejected in general some of the amendments submitted by the USR, the AUR, as well as the CSM and the associations of magistrates.
