Spanish writer Javier Marias, whose work has been translated into more than 40 languages ​​and 60 countries, died today in Madrid at the age of 70 from pneumonia, his publisher said.

According to El Mundo newspaper, the pneumonia was caused by Covid and led to his lengthy hospital stay.

He was born in 1951 in Madrid and is considered one of the greatest writers of contemporary Spanish literature. Last year, his 16th novel, Tomasz Nevinson, was published.

Among his most famous works are The Oxford Romance (1989), The Heart Is So White (1993), Fight Tomorrow, Think of Me.

He wrote 16 novels, as well as short stories, essays, excellent translations, and signed countless articles.

He has been a member of the Spanish Royal Academy since 2008, a movie buff and avid Real Madrid fan.
