Max Verstappen took another step towards a new world championship title in Formula 1: the Dutch driver of the Red Bull Racing team won the Italian Grand Prix on the Monza circuit. At the 16th stage of the season, Monegasque Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Briton George Russell (Mercedes) completed the podium.

Starting the race from the seventh position, Verstappen won his fifth consecutive victory (France, Hungary, Belgium, Holland, Italy) and the 11th this season.

Despite starting from 19th place, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes – seven-time world champion) managed to climb impressively up the standings to finish 5th.

Rookie Nick De Vries (Williams) finished ninth and scored his first points.

The race ended with the safety car coming onto the track and the Monza fans were very unhappy and booed.

  • At the moment, Max Verstappen has an advantage of 116 points over Charles Leclerc (Ferrari – 2nd place).
  • Red Bull Racing leads the constructors’ standings with an advantage of 139 points over Scuderia Ferrari (second place).
