The Olympiacos/Xini group beat Pilaya 30–24 to win the Men’s Handball Supercup. The team of Giorgos Karasavvidis was under threat until a certain point, but in the end its quality was measured.
It was a historic match for Greek handball as the organization was revived after 23 years. The previous Super Bowl was held in 1999 between Ionikos and Dukas and the New Philadelphia team won the trophy.
Now both teams are paying attention to the premiere of the Greek League, which kicks off next week. In the match, Olympiacos was in control in the first half with Pilaea’s draw (4–4, 9–9, 11–11), but Piraeus stepped on the gas and reached 16–12, ending the first 30 minutes.
The champions were leading 19-14 early in the second half, but Thessaloniki cut the lead to 20-19 with Alexandridis. Olympiacos stepped on the gas again and with Weber’s goal, they went 24-19 before extending their lead to a comfortable victory.
The Red-and-Whites’ right winger Robert Weber was named the MVP of the final by media representatives, who also became the top scorer with 8 goals.
