Frances Tiafoe promises to win the US Open

Ranked 26th in the world at the start of the competition, Tiafoe said he was much more confident after his impressive victories in New York (he knocked out several big names, including Rafael Nadal).

“I gave everything I had in the last two weeks. I came here wanting to win the US Open and I feel like I let you down. It really, really hurts. Carlos played too well. One day I will come back and win this tournament.

I proved that I can play with the best and that I am capable of winning Grand Slams. Throughout my career, I have been unable to have consistency. I played well, then disappeared for a while.

I have always performed well against the best players in the world. Now I’m doing it steadily, I’m starting to beat the main rivals more easily. I’m ready to take the next step” – Frances Tiafoe.

Francis Tiafoe is overwhelmed by the support he has had at the 2022 US Open

When he first spotted Michelle Obama cheering him on from the stands, Tiafoe was so stunned he missed the rebound.

“It was crazy to see her there … we all know what she means. I’ve seen this before, but this is a slightly different situation. She sees me and is very happy to see me. It was an incredible night” – Frances Tiafoe.
