Sinisha Mykhailovych was fired from the position of coach of the Bologna team, the Serie A group announced on Tuesday, after three and a half years of cooperation, during which the Serbian was also hospitalized (sick with leukemia).
Mykhailovych met at his residence in Rome with three officials from the management of the rossoblu group, and the discussion ended a few hours later with Mykhailovych’s dismissal.
The president of the Bologna club, Joey Saputo, published a communiqué on the group’s official website.
“It was the most difficult decision I have made since I was president of Bologna. In recent years, I have experienced beautiful and painful moments together with Sinisa, which strengthened not only professional, but, above all, human relations.
Mykhailovych courageously and resolutely faced the disease from the day he wanted to publicize his health at an emotional press conference. Since then, despite the hospitalization and severe consequences of the treatment he underwent, he always remained close to the team, making every effort to be in contact with the players.
Now, unfortunately, the time has come for a change in technical management: a painful decision that we had to make for the good of the team and the club. But even if Sinisha Mykhailovych will no longer be the coach of Bologna from today, this club and all the people who work here will always be by his side until his full recovery and until the end of his career.” – said Saputo.
Sinisha Mykhailovych was appointed as the coach of “Bologna” on January 28, 2019, and his contract was supposed to expire in June 2023.
Bologna have just three points from the first five stages of Serie A and are in 16th place without a win in this edition of the championship.
Instead of Mykhailovych, Primavera technician Luca Vigiani was appointed temporary coach, writes News.ro.
