FIMIDIA: Deputy Gehrig, Hitler’s closest associate, shortly after his election to the post of President of the Reichstag, asked the assembly for permission to immediately send a telegram to the Marshal-President with a request to receive a hearing on the case of the members of the Bureau the next day in Neudeck. This hearing usually takes place four to five days after the election of the Presidium, but due to exceptional circumstances, this period had to be shortened. At the same time, President Gehrig protested against the rumors about the imminent dissolution of the Reichstag, expressing the opinion that these rumors were causing great excitement in Germany and abroad. Referring to his election, Herr Gehrig added that it had been proved that there was a national majority in the Reichstag and that there was no reason why the Reichstag should be declared in advance incapable of forming a government. Parliament voted in favor of a proposal to immediately send a telegram to President Hindenburg. But President Gehrig’s statement caused general alarm among communists and socialists. It is considered ridiculous to see the Nazi chief of staff, the leader of the movement, systematically condemning parliamentarism, suddenly stand up in defense of this very parliamentarism against the von Papen government, which always follows the anti-parliamentary policy of the National Socialist program. .
