It’s been 20 years since they starred in Steven Soderbergh’s adventure comedy together.Gang of Eleven(“Ocean’s Eleven”). Now Julia Roberts as well as George Clooney teaming up again for a romantic comedy”ticket to heavenwritten by Ol Parker (“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again”, “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”).
They recently spoke to The New York Times about filming a new movie, working together, and the romantic comedies of the 1990s.
J. Clooney: We started on Hamilton Island with wild birds. Julia’s house was across the street from my house with Amal and the kids. She was Juju’s aunt to my children.
J. Roberts: The Clooneys saved me from complete loneliness and despair. We live in a bubble and this is the longest time I’ve been away from my family. I don’t think I’ve spent so much time with myself since I was 25 years old.
J. Clooney: Also, when Danny and the kids came to visit, it meant that Julia had to go to Sydney, and the kids were quarantined for two weeks before she saw them.
J. Roberts: So close and yet so far away. When we first went to Australia and everyone was in quarantine, it was kind of crazy. I remember on the eleventh day of shooting I asked myself: “Who am I? Where I am; What is this room that I never leave? I really didn’t expect all this.
J. Clooney: That’s why they invented alcohol.
J. Roberts: …or chocolate chip cookies.
I try to be present rather than planning. Also, I don’t have an upcoming movie role. I feel good getting back to my routine. I love being at home, being a mother. Staying in Australia has been a challenge due to the Covid measures and I think this is a real testament to friendship…
If you don’t have that restless feeling in your stomach every time you start a job, then you have more confidence than you need for that job and it will show in your productivity. The moment you believe you have what it takes or you know what you’re doing, then you really shouldn’t be doing it anymore…
