OUR Athena it is the cheapest destination in Europe for a city break, as the cost of a weekend in the Greek capital for foreign visitors is lower than what they would pay in traditionally economical destinations in Eastern Europe.
This is the conclusion of the Post Office Travel Money survey, which analyzed the spending of British tourists in 20 popular cities. Prices in the Greek capital have fallen by 15% since 2021, according to a survey, according to the Guardian.
Estimated cost includes two nights in a hotel for a couple, meals, tour tickets and transport. This “package” costs £207 in Athens and £218 in the second cheapest place, Lisbon.
Specifically, a British tourist in Athens will be asked to pay £38.96 for a dinner for two with wine, £89 for two nights in a three-star hotel and £7.79 for a 48-hour transport card.
This is followed by destinations in Eastern Europe that are generally known for their low prices, such as Krakow in Poland (£219), Riga in Latvia (£220) and Budapest in Hungary (£221).
In six of the cities analyzed, spending is more than double that of Athens. These are Stockholm (421 pounds), Paris (423 pounds), Dublin (436 pounds), Copenhagen (456 pounds), Venice (457 pounds) and Amsterdam (593 pounds).
