David Popovici (two-time European and World Junior Champion this summer) managed to qualify for the 100m freestyle semi-finals at the World Junior Swimming Championships on Saturday. The competition is held in Lima, Peru.

Davyd Popovichi won series 13, our athlete stopped the clock at 49.14 (not forcing it in any way). The next in the ranking in the series was Nicolas Antoniou with a time of 49.91.

David Popovici reached the semi-finals with the second time, he was surpassed only by the Portuguese Diogo Matos Ribeiro – 48.67.

Know:

Patrick Sebastien Dino had the third time of the 11 he competed in: 50.31 (Peter Coetzee and Nance Mazelier were first in 50.09).

Our swimmer had enough time to also make it to the semifinals of the 100-meter freestyle swimming as part of the Junior World Swimming Championships (he had the eighth result).

When will the semifinals of the 100m freestyle of the Junior Swimming Championships take place

The semi-finals at the distance of 100 m will be held on Sunday, September 4, from 02:25 (first heat), respectively from 02:30 (second heat). We are talking, of course, about Romanian time.

Finally, on Monday, September 5, from 02:02, the grand final of the 100-meter freestyle will take place.

So far, at the Junior Swimming Championships in Lima (Peru), David Popovici has won a gold medal in the 200m freestyle, as well as gold in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay and silver in the 4x100m medley relay.

David Popovichi won two gold medals at the European Swimming Championships in Rome, and our athlete was unstoppable in the queen’s distance in the 100-meter freestyleand also in the fact that 200 m free.

We will remind you that in June of this year David Popovich made a double at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, he managed to prove himself in100 and 200 m freestyle.

During the entire World Swimming Championships, only one athlete managed to win the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle events from the same edition.

It happened 49 years ago, and the person celebrating this feat is called Jim Montgomery (USA – he is now 67 years old). That year, the competition was hosted by Belgrade.
