Tsipras in ADAE: Conduct an investigation into whether MPs and MEPs are being monitored.

Conduct an investigation into “whether and how many political figures, MPs or MEPs have been legally bound, at least in the last two years, that telecom operators have the ability to keep records”, requested Alexis Tsipras President of ADAE during a meeting he had earlier with the board of the independent body.

“In accordance with the Constitution, an independent body, which is entrusted with the duty to monitor the observance of the constitutional good, which consists in the absolute inviolability of communications, as well as control the conditions and procedures on the basis of which the secrecy of communications can be removed,” he noted in his statements after the visit.

The President of SYRIZA – The Progressive Alliance indicated in his statements that “ADAE is an institutional counterweight to uphold the letter of the Constitution and protect every citizen from malicious practices that violate the constitutional right to privacy.”

Mr. Tsipras stated that “recently we are facing an unprecedented post-political institutional breakdown, an anti-democratic bias.” In particular, he stated that, on the one hand, “after the recent events and the terrible position of the Prime Minister in the Greek Parliament last Friday, when he left it open, he did not deny the possibility that other politicians, elected MPs and MPs the European Parliament may be under surveillance”, and on the other hand, “the wording that the EMP can function like a rope, while the political leader does not know who and why he is watching,” he addressed ADAE President Christos Rammos: “hold investigation so that this great shadow leaves our political system and the functioning of the state.” “Investigate and answer,” he added, “are there and how many political figures, deputies or MEPs who have been legally connected, at least for the last 2 years, which telecom operators have the opportunity to keep records.”

In addition, Mr Tsipras said he urged Mr Rammos to call Speaker of Parliament Mr Tassoulas “to give him the mobile phone numbers of all MEPs and MEPs who wish to take part in this investigation so that the AEA can formally provide answers “.

The official leader of the opposition indicated that he is aware that there is “the infamous Article 87 of the March 2021 law, Mr. Mitsotakis’ amendment, which aims to paralyze ADAE’s ability to investigate and provide answers to every citizen,” but – he emphasized that “it cannot contradict the constitutional requirement not to tell us which persons are under surveillance, but to tell us if and how many political persons, and in this case MEPs and MEPs, are under surveillance. The chosen ones, the chosen ones, the representatives of the Greek people.”

“I am confident that both the President of ADAE and his staff will do their duty. I expect that the Speaker of the Parliament will also fulfill his duty,” Mr. Tsipras said.
