Its continuation Program “Save” will receive the lion’s share of the new NSRF Operational Program 2021-2027: Environment and Climate Change, approved on Friday by the European Commission. Significant resources will be devoted to the modernization of waste management facilities, and among the strategically important projects included by the Ministry of the Environment in the new RWDP, the continuation of flood control projects, the second stage of the regeneration of Faliriko Ormos, the GReco Islands Program and two large bike paths in Attica stand out.
In particular, according to the European Commission:
• The Excoionamo program will continue in the new NSRF., with statutory resources of 625 million euros. The project will continue until about 2027 on the same basis as today, funding for framing, shading-ventilation systems, thermal insulation of external walls-roofs, internal heating-cooling systems, hot water systems, energy management systems (smart home) and lighting upgrades (common use). Interventions and the energy goal of each project are determined by a preliminary energy audit. It also covers pre- and post-factum energy inspections, as well as studies and permits required for the implementation of interventions.
• Creation or modernization of waste management facilities. Considering that the EU no longer funding mixed waste treatment facilities, new NSRF funding – up to €500 million – will go towards the construction of “collection and recycling facilities” that receive and process largely separately collected municipal waste to recover materials through mechanical and biological treatment . The completion of construction of facilities started in the previous program period and the modernization of existing ones will also be financed.
Among the strategically important projects of the program is the modernization of waste management facilities.
• Flood protection. The new NSRF has earmarked €170 million for the continuation of bridge projects funded in the first phase by the previous NSRF, the EIB and the Council of Europe Development Bank, as well as flood control projects in Attica, Evia and elsewhere.
• Reconstruction by Falyrikos Ormos. The 2nd phase of renovation works will be financed in the amount of 140 million euros, with which the current construction site will be transformed into a large public metropolitan park designed by Renzo Piano. The inclusion of the project will finally give a concrete horizon for the completion of the long-suffering project, which has been dragging on for the past two years. The Attica region is responsible for the project.
• Greco Islands Program. The continuation of the program is included in the new NSRF for 100 million euros. The program addresses the energy self-sufficiency of small islands: the main areas of intervention will include energy, the circular economy, the environment, the digital transformation of the islands, communications, as well as tourism. The program will follow the philosophy and not the procedures of Integrated Spatial Investments (ISP).
• New bike lanes. The new NSRF has 32 million euros registered for the creation of new bike lanes. Two projects will be supported specifically for Attica: the 10 km Katehaki-Goudi-Zografou-Evangelismos cycle corridor, which starts from the Katehaki metro station and passes through Goudi Park, the Polytechnic University, the university campus, Ilisia Park and ends in Katehaki. Metro station. And the bike path Ag. Anargyri – Lavrio – Sounio, with a total length of 62.5 km.
