So far, monkeypox has been diagnosed in 36 patients in Romania.

How is monkeypox transmitted and what are the symptoms

What clinical signs indicate the presence of an infection? “The clinical signs are a rash – it looks like measles, herpes, even syphilis – fever, headache (headache), back pain, enlarged lymph nodes – a very important sign – chills, extreme fatigue,” explains Dr. Florin Rosu, MD ATI and the head of the Sfanta Paraskeva Infectious Disease Hospital in Iasi:

How monkeypox is transmitted: Through contact with body fluids or saliva droplets of infected people or animals. But it is not easily transmitted.

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for this pathology: “Prevention can be achieved by vaccination against smallpox in humans, a method that proved its effectiveness even in 2003, when its spread was stopped in the United States of America,” says doctor Florin Rosu.

Infection with the virus causes a mild illness that resolves spontaneously within a few weeks, explains Dr. Florin Rosu.
