Cyclones are frequent in the Philippines.

It was the sixth tropical cyclone to hit the Southeast Asian nation this year. The Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to natural disasters, mainly due to its location in the so-called “ring of fire” in the Pacific Ocean and the powerful typhoons that hit the region.

On average, the Philippine archipelago faces 20 typhoons every year, some of which are powerful and destructive.

Last April, Tropical Storm Maggie caused flooding and mudslides in the Philippines, leaving 224 people dead and 147 missing.
