According to the balance sheet of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during the war in Ukraine, Russia lost almost 2,000 tanks, 234 aircraft and 15 ships of the Black Sea Fleet, the total cost of which is a significant amount.
Forbes Ukraine calculated the cost of equipment lost by various types of the Russian Armed Forces and which losses were the most painful.
In the six months that have passed since the beginning of the “special forces operation” on February 24, the troops sent by Vladimir Putin to Ukraine have lost 12,142 pieces of equipment worth 16.56 billion dollars, not counting the missiles launched on Ukrainian cities.
The largest loss of the Russian armed forces was the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet “Moskva”, the cost of construction of which is estimated at 750 million dollars.
“Moscow” sank on April 14 after the Ukrainians hit it the day before with home-made Neptune missiles.
The ship “Saratov”, another heavy loss of the Russian troops
In addition to the “Moscow”, Ukrainian troops destroyed $165 million worth of Russian equipment and ships on Snake Island and in nearby waters.
Among them were eight anti-aircraft complexes “Tor”, “Armor” and “Strila”, the total cost of which is more than 100 million dollars.
Before the sinking of the “Moscow”, the most expensive loss of the Russians was the IL-76 paratrooper costing 86 million dollars, which was shot down by air defense forces at the end of February on February 26.
The third costliest loss of the Russians is the amphibious assault ship “Saratov”, destroyed in the port of Berdyansk at the end of March. Its value is estimated at 75 million dollars.
Russian aviation suffered huge losses
Explosions on August 9 at the Saksky military airfield in the Crimea destroyed nine military aircraft in one blow. This is the largest one-day loss of Russian aviation since World War II.
Among the destroyed aircraft are Su-30SM fighters and Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft with an estimated cost of 230 million dollars.
According to the balance sheet published by Kyiv, Russia lost 234 military aircraft with an estimated cost of $5.3 billion or 32.1% of the total cost of equipment lost by all types of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.
Forbes did not include in the damage estimate of $16.56 billion the cost of missiles fired by Russia at Ukraine or shot down, the exact number of which is difficult to calculate.
The General Staff of Ukraine previously stated that only in the first two months of the war, Russia used about 1,300 missiles, the cost of which was estimated by Forbes at $7.5 billion.
