​Gabriela Lee-Talaba advanced to the second round of qualifying for the 2022 US Open, the final Grand Slam tournament of the year, after defeating Sara Errani (Roland Garros 2012 finalist) in three sets.

Our athlete, who is ranked 137th in the world, defeated the Italian Errani (117th WTA, 16th qualification favorite) after almost two hours of play with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Know:

• In the next round of qualification, Gabriela will face Leslie Pattinama Kerkhove (196 WTA), after the athlete from the Netherlands beat Austria’s Barbara Haas (372 WTA) 6-3, 6-3.
• Having passed in the second round of qualification, the Romanian secured a check for $33,600 and 20 points in the WTA ranking.
• Romania is also represented by three more athletes in the qualification: Iryna Bara will play against American Kayla Day (first round), Ana Bohdan he will fight again with Mexican Fernanda Contreras Gomez (second round). Alexander Kadantsu-Ignatik will meet Misaki Doi (second round).
