PSD president Marcel Çolaku says the liberalization of the energy market was a “tragic” decision that resulted in “reinvention of the smart guys” in the industry, revealing that energy wasted during liberalization is now being sold at ten times the price. Çolaku claims that “no one has anything personal with Virgil Popescu or only with Virgil Popescu”, answering a question about the criticism of some PSD representatives towards the Minister of Energy.

“The most tragic was the liberalization of energy prices. It was done at the worst time anyone could have done it. And the people of the USSR rejoiced like happy seals, said that we will have cheaper energy, announced on TV … this liberalization, without taking any measures, when the market and those in charge warned you about taking these measures last October. No decision – you know, the worst decision is when you don’t make any decision – the energy was sold, you didn’t make any decision to stop it. Although the majority shareholder of the company is the Romanian state, you could not do anything because you have already sold the energy. Well, they didn’t collect any money, because they collect money when they sell energy, when they generate it. All they have achieved with this liberalization since then is to rethink the brains in energy. Energy, which last year was sold for 300 lei, 400, is now sold for 3000. The trader, the European media, I informed myself and myself, he has a margin of one to and three percent. Think of the margin we have now! There’s a lot to talk about energy,” Marcel Cholaku said Tuesday night on Antena 3, News.ro reports.

He argues that there is a general concern about the development of the energy market, indicating that it is causing a chain reaction.

“If we had not taken the decision in March to set the ceiling, we would have been talking about double inflation at the moment,” Çolaku added.

When asked what he did not like about being the Minister of Energy, Çolaku explained that “no one has anything personal with Virgil Popescu or only with Virgil Popescu.”
