US: Biden’s popularity rises to 41%

Popularity of the American President Joe Biden That week rose to its highest level since early June, following a string of Democratic wins in the legislature, according to a Reuters and Ipsos poll.

In this poll, 41% of Americans approve of the president’s performance. For the first time since the beginning of June, it exceeded 40%. In four weekly polls in May, June and July, Biden’s approval rating dropped to 36%. His predecessor, Donald Trump, had an even lower figure in December 2017 at 33%.

In four of the past five weeks, Biden’s approval ratings have risen as Congress passed bills aimed at tackling climate change, lowering drug prices and making the US more competitive in science and technology with China.

Democrats are expected to lose control of the House of Representatives in the Nov. 8 midterm elections, but they have a chance to retain control of the Senate. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell said this week that Republicans have only a 50 percent chance of regaining control of the Senate. Even if they control only the House of Representatives, Republicans will be able to block bills and launch potentially politically dangerous investigations into Democrats.

According to the poll, 78% of Democrats approve of Biden’s work (up from 69% in early July). Only 12% of Republicans hold the same view, and that percentage has remained nearly constant in recent weeks.

Biden’s approval rating has fallen below 50% since last August as Americans battle inflation and the economy slowly recovers from the pandemic. However, inflation is showing signs of declining and gasoline prices have fallen from their all-time highs.
