
CFR SA announces that the first and most important financial contract for the railway sector worth 8.77 billion lei has been signed as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Program (PNRR). It is about the modernization of the railway line Karansebesh – Timisoara – Arad with a total length of 162 km.
The financial contract signed by the Minister of Transport Sorin Grindianu and the General Director of the National Railway Company CFR SA Ion Simu Alexandru is aimed at the modernization of the railway line Karansebesh – Timisoara – Arad with a total length of 162 km.
The project for the modernization of the Karansebesh – Timisoara – Arad railway line is structured in 4 lots, each lot already has a designated builder, in open tender procedures for the design and execution of works, namely:
Lot 1: Karansebesh – Lugozh
Lot 2: Lugozh – Eastern Timisoara
Lot 3: East Timisoara – Ronat Triage Gr. D
Lot 4: Ronat Triage, Group D – Arad
What works will be performed
- doubling of the railway track along the entire length of the route:
- restoration of the infrastructure of the lines and adjustment of the route to achieve a speed of 160 km/h;
- modernization of passenger buildings;
- construction of footpaths and bringing the level of platforms to European standards;
- establishment of passenger stops in cities for direct access to the rail transport network;
- cancellation or transformation of railway crossings into level crossings;
- special railway operational works, through the construction of two maintenance buildings, a regional traffic control center and the ERTMS system (ETCS level 2 and GSM -R).
The Karansebes – Timisoara – Arad railway line is located on the Eastern Mediterranean Corridor, which is part of the main TEN-T railway network.
