
At least 15 people died in India during monsoon floods and landslides in the foothills of the Himalayas.
Rescuers arrived in the Mandi district in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh, where floods washed away two houses and claimed the lives of eight people. Landslides and floods have claimed the lives of seven more people in the state.
Television footage showed part of a railway bridge washed away by flooding in the neighboring Kangra area.

In the Hamipur district, flash floods stranded 19 people on the rooftops of local buildings, who were later rescued.
Schools were closed in the most affected areas.
Popular with tourists, Himachal Pradesh is known for its snow-capped mountains.
In July, eight people died in flash floods that hit a pilgrimage camp in neighboring Kashmir.
In June, heavy rainfall fell in remote areas of northeast India. About 40 people were killed in a landslide that flooded the camp of railway workers and army reservists in the state of Manipur.
Floods and landslides are common in India during the rainy season (June-September), and climate change is increasing their frequency, severity and suddenness, according to experts.
