Built at the end of the 19th century on the north side of the city of Patmos, right under the walls and next to the gates of Theologos monastery, there is a visual tribute to the traditional house of Stavrak, which perfectly matches the spirit of this special place. At the initiative of the Patmian Culture Society, the exhibition “Mediterranean Manifestations” by Christina Nakou is on display until 21 August. The tribute focuses on the beauty of the landscape and tries to combine painting and mosaics with the architectural space of the house as a single environment, an inseparable unity. He wants to emphasize the material and spiritual brokenness of a world that is being lost or falling into disuse, suggesting that we “listen” to them and reconsider our connection with them. His ultimate goal is to reflect on the wisdom with which the ancients lived, the oligarchies, the economy of resources that permeate their works.

Having carefully studied the ancient mosaics, Naku is trying to recreate the “image” through which man and nature have a relationship of harmony and coexistence. To place the visitor in this atmosphere, he first lets the eye wander to three large windows that offer an unobstructed view of the sea. Optical fugues “act” as an introduction to water, air, light and earth. The wooden ceiling at a height of three meters creates a spacious, light architectural shell that breathes and bathes in summer rays. “The oil paint on the doors and windows, the pink of the wooden floor, the ocher of the stone arch that reflects the sun, the whitewashed walls and the two large cloister tables are all authentic Mediterranean expressions for me,” she says. .

On these tabletops, he placed many personal notes, as well as herbs, shells, photographs, books, and scrapbooks. The exhibition presents retrospectively the work of various divisions of Nakos associated with the Mediterranean.
