With counterfeit banknotes they made purchases in Pieria four people who were found to have 2 counterfeit 500 euro banknotes and 48 counterfeit 100 euro banknotes. According to the police, on the evening of August 16, 2022, in the coastal area of ​​Pieria, two of the detainees made a purchase of small goods in 5 stores, paying with counterfeit banknotes of 100 euros.

Their actions were noticed by the victims and they were immediately detained by patrol policemen, and the products and the corresponding sums of money confiscated by them were returned to the shop owners.

Their other two accomplices tried to escape by taxi, but were spotted by members of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Department and arrested. In the taxi they were traveling in, counterfeit 100 euro banknotes were found and confiscated, carefully hidden under the floor mat and carpet of the car. The car of the detainees was also found, during a search of which counterfeit banknotes of 500 and 100 euros were found hidden in the luggage compartment. In addition, 4 mobile phones and an amount of 2,281 euros were found and confiscated from them.

The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Katerinsky sub-department of security, and one of their local accomplices also appears in the filed case. Those arrested will be taken to District Attorney Katerini.
