Simona blamed problems with her right hip and decided not to risk a more serious injury ahead of the US Open (August 29-September 11).
Under these conditions, Veronika Kudermetova will go to the 1/8 finals in Cincinnati without playing. The athlete from Russia will play the winner of the match between the Iberian Paula Badosa (favorite 3) and the Australian Ayla Tomlyanovich (63 WTA).

The Western & Southern Open is the last tournament before the US Open 2022
A WTA 1000 category competition, the tournament will be held on hard from August 15 to 21, 2022. Its total prize money is $2,527,250 and there are 64 players at the start of the main draw. The current champion is Ashley Barty (now retired from tennis), who won the title last year.
