Apostolos Christou became the protagonist of the European Swimming Championships in Rome.
After the gold medal he won in the 50m backstroke, he qualified with the second fastest time (53.20) in today’s 100m backstroke final. However, the performances of Christian Golomeev and Andreas Vasios, who will again be among the best swimmers of the Old Continent, were also excellent.
In the historic sports complex Foro Italico, decorated with statues, Apostolos Christou became the European champion and fulfilled his first dream. With a time of 24.36, he improved his own Panhellenic record and heard the national anthem in the 50m backstroke. Today (19.10) he will try to be on the podium of the Eternal City again.
Today our country will have two more participations in the finals. Christian Golomeev qualified 6th in the final 50m freestyle with a score of 21.76 (19:00, ERT3). Andreas Vasios received a qualifying “ticket” for today’s final (19.37) of the individual 200m individual medley, finishing 7th.
19-year-old Daniil Yurtsidis remained in 11th place. Marilia Drozidou placed 14th in the 50m breaststroke.
