Aston Martin DBR22: an impressive concept, soon in production! News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

A very important week for car enthusiasts, collectors and manufacturers opens every year in the middle of August: Monterey Car Week. Around the biggest pageant of elegance in the world, took place in Pebble Beach, California, many activities are planned every day during the week. An ideal opportunity for luxury manufacturers to present new exclusive models or concept cars. And this year the ball is opened by Aston Martin, p DBR22.

The Aston Martin DBR22 continues a theme that has become increasingly common among sports car manufacturers in recent years: exclusive body, and without a roof or windshield, all on a technical basis already seen elsewhere in the range. We are thinking, for example, of the McLaren Elva, the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2, or even the V12 Speedster that Aston Martin has already produced since 2020. Except that the DBR22 unveiled today is (for now) just a “concept”.

A tribute to “Q” and racing trays of the 1950s

According to Aston Martin, the DBR22 was created to celebrate 10 years of the Q personalization service. Named after James Bond’s famous gadget purveyor, this highly exclusive service offers customization that ranges from unique paint colors to ultra limited models such as Vulcain or Victor.

For this new concept, Aston Martin instead turned to its ancient history. In particular, the neo-retro lines of the DBR22 are a direct tribute to the Aston barquettes that competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1950s, DBR1 and DB3S. Hence the name!

Soon in the series

No roof, no windshield, but a small windshield. In front, traditional lattice design Aston Martin frames several air intakes with a very technical design, in contrast to the more elegant grilles of the brand’s classic models. The small oblong headlights are reminiscent of the DBR1 and DB3S as well as the Valkyrie, for example. We find it behind very retro double boss, which opens onto a light strip that runs through the entire rear of the car. The latter leaves room for a number plate: Aston Martin specifies that the DBR22 may be produced in very small series at the request of a very limited number of customers. We imagine it the price will be exclusive.

Technically based on the Aston Martin DBR22 familiar brand V12 biturbo, developed here up to 715 hp. for 753 Nm of torque. We’re guessing the underpinnings are largely similar to the recent Aston Martin Vantage V12, given the car’s size.
