In particular, atmospheric circulation over Europe will contribute to the predominance of warm gas masses in a large part of the European continent, as well as in Greece, which will lead to a gradual increase in temperature to high seasonal values.

The peak of warming falls on a two-day period from Friday 19.08 to Saturday 20.08, when it is likely that the temperature will reach 41-42 degrees Celsius in some places.

Under these conditions, dead wood fuels, especially thinner ones such as leaves, needles, small branches and logs, release moisture into the atmosphere and dry out quickly. This has the effect of facilitating ignition in the presence of a heat source, and then sustaining combustion and rapidly transmitting (spreading) the fire.
