Battle of four investment schemes for Corfu Marina

In a battle between the largest groups operating in Greek harbors, a tender is developing for the concession of a new megayacht harbor in Corfu. Four schemes have shown interest in the competition, and according to information from Kathimerini, the TAIPED board has decided to move all four to the next phase, the mandatory bid stage.

Considering the large concentration of yachts in the Adriatic every year and the number of popular destinations on its shores, combined with the lack of serious berths, especially in Greece, the prospects for the development of the business of this marina look especially encouraging. Thus, it was decided that the majority of the marina’s capacity would be dedicated to super- and mega-yachts.

Under these conditions, for the concession, which will last until 2063, the construction companies Avax and Aktor compete in principle within the framework of a joint venture. The former controls the Athens marina at the Faliro Peace and Friendship Stadium, while the latter has received a concession from the Alimos marina, the largest in Attica and one of the largest in Southeast Europe. The subsidiary of the American investment fund CVC Capital, D Marinas Hellas, which the fund acquired from Turkish Dogus, is also participating in the fight for the lawsuit. D Marinas controls a significant number of marinas internationally, 15 of which are in Greece, as well as in Montenegro, Croatia and other countries. The third contender is none other than Lamda Marinas, a subsidiary of Lamda Development, which controls the Flisvos marina and, in the future, also the Agios Kosmas marina in Elliniko. The fourth of the candidates reportedly qualified for the final round is TEKAL, a construction company that is active in the development and construction of infrastructure in Greece, as well as the provision of services in the marina sector, while in recent years it has been a major manufacturer of port infrastructure, whose portfolio includes almost all port projects of the Chinese Cosco Shipping in Piraeus.

The master plan for the port of Corfu includes the construction of an underutilized mega yacht marina, replacing the existing small boat repair and maintenance facilities currently located in the western part of the port. It is located to the west of the existing commercial port, next to the cruise terminal and only three kilometers from the international airport. It is considered a “bridge” between Greece and other Mediterranean destinations connected to national and international ports and areas of high demand, including the Ionian Sea, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia and southern Italy.

According to the general plan, it is designed to accommodate ships with a length of 30 to 140 meters and a draft of up to 5 meters, as well as to have about 100 berths. Its land zone has an area of 40 hectares and can be used to create, in addition to the auxiliary buildings of the marina, a hotel, a shopping center and catering establishments.
