Fuel: will the discount remain despite falling prices? News from Auto Plus in your smartphone News from Auto Plus in your mailbox

Over the past few days, fuel has dropped quite significantly, by more than 10 kopecks. A small drop that does not yet allow us to return to the amounts published a few years ago, when a liter cost barely 1.40 euros, but that’s it. And motorists are clearly delighted, with the price of unleaded petrol now closer to €1.70 than at any time in recent months. Of course, this is still very expensive, and the situation forces many drivers to constantly reduce their trips, both personal and business. But we can only estimate this small drop in a period of high inflation, when prices are constantly rising. But it should be remembered that discount 18 cents is still in effect, allowing stations to show such attractive prices.

Closer to the end of the discount

But can this one disappear if fuel price fell too hard? Rest assured, this is not planned at all, as reported by our colleagues in Ouest France. The latter actually appealed to the Ministry of Economy, which confirms that this small increase is completely unrelated to the prices at the station. It is clear that even if they were to decrease significantly, the discount would still apply. Very good news for motorists, while diesel is priced at €1.84 per liter, up from over €2.14 per liter last March. A small drop, which is explained, in particular, by the drop in the price of a barrel of oil.

Gradual end

However, one really has to expect that the discount will eventually disappear, as the government already plans to do. But before that, it will be increased to 30 cents in September and October. In November, it will drop to 10 cents and then gradually disappear until the end of the year. Please note that TotalEnergies stations will offer a small discount of an additional 20 cents. Something that will please drivers whose lives are complicated by rising fuel prices.
