The Russian Defense Ministry said that the explosion that occurred today at a Russian air base was caused by an explosion of aircraft munitions.
“Several ammunition intended for aviation exploded in a warehouse located on the territory of the Saki military airport, not far from the Novofionodorovka district,” the ministry said in a statement, emphasizing that the warehouse was not the object of fire or shelling.

Earlier today, three eyewitnesses told Reuters they heard several loud explosions and saw black smoke billowing from the Russian airbase at Novofedorivka in the western part of the peninsula.
Videos posted on social media also show smoke rising in the area.
