Over the past month, on its most successful front in the Donbass, the Russian army has been able to advance only 10 kilometers due to insufficient infantry forces, the British Ministry of Defense said in an assessment on Tuesday morning.

What British military intelligence says:

  • Over the weekend, Russia continued to concentrate forces to strengthen defenses in southern Ukraine. Despite this change in the direction of its efforts, Russia also continued to attack Ukrainian positions in the Donetsk region.
  • Over the past 30 days, Russia’s offensive on the city of Bakhmut was its most successful axis in Donbas; however, during this time, Russia managed to advance only 10 km.
  • In other parts of Donbas, where Russia tried to penetrate, during this 30-day period, its forces did not gain more than 3 km; almost certainly much less than planned.
  • Despite the constant and intensive use of artillery in these areas, Russia was unable to create combat-ready infantry in sufficient numbers to ensure more significant successes.
