
The rector of the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology (UMFST) “George Emil Palade” from Tirgu Mures, Leonard Azamfirei, announced on Tuesday evening that during the rehabilitation work of the central building of the university, several paintings of inestimable value were discovered, one of which represents the ruler Mihai Viteazul in natural size, notes Agerpres.
“The central building of the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology (UMFST) “George Emil Palade” in Tirgu Mures is the subject of a major rehabilitation that will be completed this autumn. The other day there was a big surprise in the festive hall of the university. During the renovation works, a series of priceless paintings, covered with the current paint, were discovered under the current painting: a life-size ruler of Mihai Vityazul, the coats of arms of the Kingdom of Romania 1881-1922, as well as a series of specific decorations that cover both the walls and the ceiling of the hall.” – wrote rector Leonard Azamfirei in a post on Facebook.
As a result of this opening, emphasized the rector of UMFST Tirgu Mures, the building, which has the status of a historical monument, will be evaluated by experts in the field of historical monuments protection, and the festive hall will be renovated in such a way that it will be brought to that appearance , in which it was in the period 1920-1940, when the university building housed the Mykhay Vityazul Military Higher School.
“In the university’s own archive, there is a photo of the Festive Hall from the interwar period, when there was a school chapel, the details of which perfectly match the recently discovered images, a document that will form the basis of the rehabilitation project (. ..) Today, August 9, marks the 421st anniversary of the death of Mihai Vityazul (1558-1601),” the post also states.
