Ukrainian troops bombed the Antoniv bridge in the Russian-controlled city of Kherson again, damaging construction equipment and delaying its restoration, the Interfax news agency reported on Monday, citing a Russian-appointed local official.

The bridge is one of two crossing points for Russian troops to the territories they occupy on the west bank of the Dnipro River in southern Ukraine, Reuters notes.

It has been a major target for Ukrainian forces in recent weeks, and Kyiv has used US-supplied HIMARS precision-guided missiles to try to destroy it, possibly in preparation for a counteroffensive to retake Russian-held territory in the south.

Kyrylo Stremousov, the deputy head of the Kherson city administration appointed by Russia, told Interfax that there was no “critical destruction” from the latest explosions, but did not say how long the planned opening would be postponed.
