In a review of recommendations for vaccination population over the next month is expected to lead to developments in the development and approval of an updated vaccines against SARS-CoV-2. Minister of Health Thanos Pleuris Speaking on SKAI radio yesterday, he calculated that from September there will be stricter vaccination recommendations for people over 60 and people who are at high risk of serious illness. And depending on the timing of approval and arrival of updated vaccines that will cover and Omicron variations, but also according to the decisions of European organizations (European Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the European Medicines Agency), there may be a recommendation for vaccination of the population as a whole. Plyuris said the information the ministry has received from vaccine companies is that approval could be given in August for vaccines that will cover the first Omicron sub-options and follow those that will also include Omicron BA .4 and BA. .5.

It is possible that new drugs will be approved in August – recommendations for vaccination will be revised.

The Minister also mentioned the serious problem of many deaths of COVID-19 patients registered in our country, and announced a more thorough analysis of the way in which relevant data is presented by EODIto show how many deaths are due to COVID-19 and how many are due to patients who simply tested positive for the virus and are therefore registered as sick with COVID. Mr Plyuris reiterated that our country continues to record deaths based on the definition of the World Organization (every person infected with coronavirus and dying, regardless of whether death occurred from another cause), while most European countries mark only those for which the virus is responsible as deaths from COVID. The minister clarified that changing the way COVID deaths are recorded in Greece is out of the question, but the data will be accompanied by a more thorough analysis of incidents.
