
Agriculture Minister Petre Daea says the data he has shows there will be no oil supply problems, although Romania’s sunflower crops have been hit by drought.
At a press conference on Thursday, Petre Daea was asked if there would be a reduction in the amount of oil in Romania this year, given that sunflower crops have been affected by the drought.
- “Cutting production also reduces the amount of oil, but it will not reduce it.
- From the data that I have at the moment, it appears that there are no problems with the provision of oil in Romania from this even the affected production that we have at the country level,” said Petre Daea, quoted by News.ro.
More than 200,000 hectares of agricultural crops were affected by the drought
The total area affected by the drought currently stands at 214,870 hectares in 25 districts, more than half of which is cultivated with wheat and triticale, according to data sent Thursday by the agriculture ministry.
Thus, of the total 214,870 hectares destroyed by the drought, 128,528 hectares are occupied by wheat and triticale, followed by the areas of barley, sorghum, oats and rye – 20,855 hectares, rapeseed – 22,013 hectares, corn – 26,163 hectares, and soybeans. – 1,993 hectares, peas – 548 hectares, sunflower – 9,717 hectares, fodder plants – 1,110 hectares, other crops – 3,863 hectares.
Counties so far: Arad, Bacau, Bihor, Botosani, Braila, Buzeu, Kalaras, Constanta, Galati, Dambovitsa, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Jalomitsa, Iasi, Ilfov, Maramures, Neamts, Prahova, Satu Mare, Suceava, Teleorman, Tulcea, Timis, Vaslui and Vranca.
