Consumer sentiment is at a five-year low

The lowest point in the last 5 years was found in July. consumer confidence index measured by the Institute for Economic and Industrial Research (I LOVE) as the income support measures taken so far by the government do not seem to be able to dispel the uncertainty that exists in households, especially regarding the coming winter. It is worth noting that there is also pessimism among businesses, with business expectations declining in construction and manufacturing and slightly improving in retail and services, mainly due to the positive impact of tourism growth.

In particular, the consumer confidence index was -55.3 points (from -52.5 points in June), which is much lower than a year ago (-31.4 points in July 2021). 74% believe that their economic situation has deteriorated over the past 12 months, 68% expect further deterioration in the next twelve months, and 78% believe that the economic situation in the country will also worsen in the next period.
