Olympiacos: Relay baton to Corberano

Yesterday a new page opened in Olympiacos with Carlos Corberan formally take over the technical leadership of the team. 39-year-old Spaniard replaces Pedro Martinswith the Portuguese saying goodbye to the “red-whites” after four years of presence.

Yesterday afternoon Corberan met with the President of Olympiacos. Vangelis Marinakis at the PAE office in Pasalimani and after signing a contract along with his colleagues (two assistants, a coach and an analyst) he went to the Rentis training center to get to work as he only plays his first official game against a rival on Thursday Slovan Bratislava for their 3rd qualifying round Europa League. Korberan was greeted by Christian Karebbe, Mr. Marinakis’s immediate partner, Yiannis Vrentzos, as well as Abraham Papadopoulos, with the Greek stopper effectively hanging up his football boots as he is the team’s general captain. After inspecting the facilities, Carlos Corberan held his first training session with the Red-Whites. Previously, Vangelis Marinakis met with Pedro Martins to write the epilogue of a collaboration between the two sides that began in 2018 and effectively ended in disgrace after a heavy loss to Maccabi Haifa.

As for Carlos Corberan, he made his first coaching steps in Cyprus, taking on Doxa Katokopias and Ermis Aradippa. He then went to England and worked alongside Marcelo Bielsa as his assistant in Leeds. In July 2020, he accepted an offer from Huddersfield to become manager and within two years managed to take his side to the final of the Premier League promotion where they were defeated by Nottingham Forest.

Today, the “red-whites” are studying rivals in the playoffs of Europe or the conference – goodbye, Semedo.

• Olympiacos will find their opponents in Nyon today in the Europa League playoffs if they beat Slovan Bratislava and also in the conference playoffs if they are relegated. Among others, his possible opponents in the first case are Gent, Austria, Vienna and Sivasspor, teams that not only facilitate his mission.

• With a post on social media, Rubén Semedo said goodbye to Olympiacos and the Portuguese centre-back continued his career at Al Duhail.
